Duck Duck Mandarin Northern Wood Wood

This is a story of conservation as told through the natural histories of two of the world's most beautiful and fascinating birds. Of the more than one hundred species of ducks in the world, the Wood Duck of North America and the Mandarin of Asia are among the most magnificent in appearance and the most remarkable in behavior. The only two species in their genus, these two Northern Wood Ducks breed, nest, and winter in the northern hemisphere, seeking out protective forests, quiet rivers, and secluded lakes. The Wood Duck and the Mandarin, the first book ever devoted to these two species, tracks both throughout the seasons and across diverse terrain.

Mandarin Duck - The Mandarin Duck (Aix galericulata), or just Mandarin, is a medium-sized perching duck, closely related to the North American Wood Duck. It is 41-49 cm long with a 65-75 cm wingspan.

White-winged Wood Duck - The White-winged Wood Duck (Cairina scutulata) is a species of dabbling duck in the genus Cairina. Historically it was widely distributed from north-east India and Bangladesh, through South East Asia to Java and Sumatra.

Wood Duck - The Wood Duck (Aix sponsa) is a medium-sized perching duck. An adult is about three-quarters of the length of an adult Mallard.

Plumed Whistling Duck - The Plumed Whistling Duck, Dendrocygna eytoni, is a whistling duck which breeds in northern and eastern Australia.
