The Wood Duck and the Mandarin: The Northern Wood Ducks by Lawton L. Shurtleff,
This is a story of conservation as told through the natural histories of two of the world's most beautiful and fascinating birds. Of the more than one hundred species of ducks in the world, the Wood Duck of North America and the Mandarin of Asia are among the most magnificent in appearance and the most remarkable in behavior. The only two species in their genus, these two Northern Wood Ducks breed, nest, and winter in the northern hemisphere, seeking out protective forests, quiet rivers, and secluded lakes. The Wood Duck and the Mandarin, the first book ever devoted to these two species, tracks both throughout the seasons and across diverse terrain.

The Tale of the Mandarin Ducks by Katherine Paterson,
The Tale of the Mandarin Ducks by Katherine Paterson,
Brilliant paintings illuminate this retelling of a popular Japanese folktale. Coveting a mandarin duck for his plumage, a greedy lord captures and cages him. The kitchen maid releases the bird and is sentenced to death. How the grateful drake returns the kindness, and outsmarts the capricious lord makes for a wondrous outcome. An ALA Notable Book.

Mandarin Duck - The Mandarin Duck (Aix galericulata), or just Mandarin, is a medium-sized perching duck, closely related to the North American Wood Duck. It is 41-49 cm long with a 65-75 cm wingspan.

Duck test - The term duck test refers to a method of analogical comparison whereby one can infer the nature of an unknown based upon its outwardly visible traits. More simply, the duck test can be explained this way: If a bird looks like a duck, swims like a duck and quacks like a duck, then you can infer that it is indeed a duck, even if it is not wearing a label that explicitly states its identity.

Labrador Duck - The Labrador Duck (Camptorhynchus labradorius) was a striking black and white eider-like sea duck that was never known to be common, and is believed to be the first bird to go extinct in North America after 1500. The last Labrador Duck is believed to have been seen at Elmira, New York on December 12, 1878; the last preserved specimen was shot in 1875 on Long Island.

Federal Duck Stamp - The Federal Duck Stamp is a United States program to generate revenue to protect wetlands. In 1934, the Migratory Bird Hunting Stamp Act, popularly known as the "Duck Stamp Act," was passed by Congress.
